New Hair, I Care!

If most of you know me as a mousy-haired Londoner, you should know it wasn't always the case. There was a time when my much lighter locks and I would hit the sunny beaches of the French Riviera every day. The look was the result of sunshine and salty water - but also of a bi-annual healthy dose of bleach. After finishing my Masters and feeling like I had somewhat lost myself in the big city, it was important for me to get some of my old self back. The first thing on my list? My long, sunkissed hair.

So off I went to Headmasters Soho, to meet with art team member Gareth Williams. Ever since I moved to London, Headmasters has been my go-to salon. Their £28 stand-by appointments are unbeatable value for money and their Me-Day Monday offer is incredible if you are looking to change it up on a budget.

As I said, I had grown really tired of my hair and fancied a change. After discussing it with Gareth, we decided to go for a balayage - a well-known French technique, which gives a natural sunkissed effect, without the stark look of ombré. For the cut, Gareth introduced me to one of Headmaster's 'Classics Collection' cuts, which uses soft layers to give movement and volume to the hair, without losing any of its thickness. I was sold!

After a couple of hours, I was left with beautiful bouncy hair. I have always been afraid of getting too many layers cut in, in fear that my hair would look fine and more damaged. Gareth proved me wrong and I may even go as far as to say that this is the best haircut I have had in a very long time!

Now, to be completely honest with you, even though Gareth did an incredible job at giving my hair some shape and dimension, the colour wasn't exactly what I had in mind... I was going in for a change and the result was just a tad too subtle for my liking. Good thing Headmasters has a 100% satisfaction guarantee! I timidly voiced my concerns and was promptly booked back in with the wonderful Sian Quinn for a touch-up.

I knew I was in good hands when she turned to me, half-way through the appointment and jokingly said "Lauren Conrad, eat your heart out!" Clearly, we were kindred spirits! Sian is one of those people who are so incredibly passionate about their craft, it really shows. The three hours flew by and I was so excited to see the result, I think I might have even squealed in my chair at one point.

We didn't touch the cut at all, since I was over the moon with what Gareth had done the week before. Instead we focused on colour. Once again, we opted for a balayage, albeit a much blonder one. I also wanted the colour to frame my face a little bit better, so Sian put in some super fine "baby lights" around the front section of my hair, to bring more attention to my cheekbones. She finished the whole look off with a colour wash, before giving me the ultimate beach babe treatment - soft, bouncy waves. I LOVE IT! In fact, I'm happy to say that I now have my absolute dream hair!

I have now visited three Headmasters salons and can honestly say that the service is nothing but incredible. Whether at the Chiswick, Notting Hill or Soho branch, I have never had anything but a great experience. I don't know many salons who would go through a whole new treatment, just to please their customer and make sure they leave 100% happy.

And because pictures speak louder than words, here is a before and after of my hair, to show you how Gareth and Sian worked their magic on me:

Before / After

Amazing, right?! I guess it's now time for me to find out if brondes really do have more fun...

Did you change up your hair for summer? I would love to know what your dream hair would be!

Disclaimer : Headmasters were kind enough to give me a complementary colour and haircut, however, I would happily spend my own money again as I LOVE the result!
