Summer on the French Riviera : The Essentials

Temperatures are soaring, watermelons are back on the market stalls and the first tan lines have appeared - It can only mean one thing... Summer's here! To celebrate, I thought I'd share with you a few of my French Riviera must-haves, so here we go:

These mirrored Ray-Ban aviators are my favourite sunglasses right now. Not only do they protect my eyes from any armful ray, they're also the perfect accessory to hide a short night sleep on a Sunday morning. I haven't taken them off ever since they got here. What can I say, they make just enough of a statement to look fashionably fabulous, but are easy enough to wear so I can throw them on with anything and be good to go. This is love, let me tell you.

Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Or

I have been using the Nuxe Huiles Prodigieuses ever since I can remember. If I love the original formula to keep my hair shiny and my skin smooth, I'm all about the Or version comes summer. The fine gold shimmer in the oil works as a highlighter, giving the illusion of longer legs, more prominent collarbones and slimmer arms, while still keeping my skin hydrated and making me look - okay, feel -, like Beyoncé on the beach.

A White Cotton Shirt

Thrown over a bikini, the classic white collared shirt makes for an easy-to-wear, sexy cover-up. Pair it with a bright orange lip and tuck it into a pair of denim shorts and it becomes the perfect, fail-safe outfit to sip rhum cocktails on the beach. I never go home without mine, which is from H&M.

Sea Salt Spray

If there is one think I've learnt in my 20 years of living on the French Riviera, it is that sea salt spray is your best friend when getting ready in a hurry. Yes, even if you only just came back from the beach. Truth is, sometimes, you just don't have time to wash your hair and spend hours styling it. That's when the sea salt spray comes out. I just use a few sprays in the lengths of my hair and play around with it until I achieve the perfect beach babe look and voilà! No need to faff around with hot tools and round brushes.

A Warm Bronzer

Bronzer? When you've been in the sun all day? The answer's yes. If in London, I much prefer matte formulas, like Benefit Hoola or Nars' Tuomota multiple, it's all about achieving that perfect sunkissed glow when I'm at home. Think golden, with a hint of terracotta thrown in for good measure. Some of my favourites are MAC Refined Golden bronzing powder, the Terracotta de Guerlain and Benefit Dallas.

Of course, a high SPF sunscreen is also one of my essentials, but I don't need to be at home, in the sun, to remember to slather it on and neither should you!

Where are you spending your summer? Have you ever been to the French Riviera?
