Sleigh this Party Season with The Body Shop

If you're anything like me, your social calendar has slowly (but surely) been filling up with all sorts of festive events this month - from office work parties to the more relaxed Friendsmas and of course, the almighty New Years Eve. 'Tis the season to be jolly after all, which is why I teamed up with The Body Shop to create the ultimate party look to see you through all those festive shenanigans.

As much as I love a sparkly red lip - hello, glitter lips anyone? -, I wanted to try something different this time and opted for an almost monochromatic approach, using a mix of deep plums, rich burgundies and matte taupes for my party look. If you like the sound of this, keep reading for a detailed step-by-step tutorial on how I created this look :

ALL ABOUT THAT BASE

Because no one likes to look like Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer before the party even starts, perfecting your base is essential. But it's also important not to overdo it, especially if, like me, you're going for a strong eye and a strong lip look. Swap your usual foundation for something lighter, like The Body Shop's All-In-One BB cream or just skip this step altogether. You can always go back in and use your favourite concealer on any area that might need more coverage. This is exactly what I did, before finishing the whole thing off with a light dusting of translucent powder that I applied with my new favourite slanted kabuki brush.

ALL EYES ON YOU

One of the many things I was lucky enough to get sent was this beautiful 'Down to Earth' palette, which has everything you might want, this holiday season - from matte neutrals to sparkly smokey shades. Needless to say, I was very excited to give this a go, but first, I primed my eyelids using the Instablur for Eyes to make sure my eyeshadow would stay put. I then used the Eye Colour Stick in Cyprus Bronze all over the lid for a quick wash of colour. This looks great by itself if you're in a hurry and want something quick - In fact, I often wear Cairo Granite on its own with just a little bit of eyeliner if I don't have much time to get ready. This time though, I wanted to add even more dimension to my look so I picked up my new palette and used 'Provence Ochre', a beautiful burgundy shade. I popped that all over the lid, before adding a little bit of the matte taupe shadow called 'Peru Clay' in the crease for some extra definition.

I then traced my signature cat-eye flick using the skinny felt eyeliner, before going over the edges with a little bit of 'Bengal Granite' on my double-ended eyeshadow brush. The dark purple shade helps soften the harsh lines of the liquid liner, while adding some festive sparkle to the whole look. I also added some more of the Cyprus Bronze colour stick on my lower lash line to bring some light to my eyes. Last, but not least, I finished off the whole look by highlighting my brow bone with the lightest shade in the palette, before adding a few coats of the Super Volume Mascara. You could also add some individual lashes if you wanted to, but I find that since using Lilash, all I need is a good mascara and I'm good to go.

LIPS AND TIPS

You could stop here and just wear your favourite nude lipstick if you wanted, but if like me, you want to make a statement, definitely go for a bold, wine-coloured lip. Like many of us, I'm a little bit liquid lipstick-crazy at the moment, so I went for the Matte Lip Liquid in the shade 'Mauritius Dahlia', a deep, festive burgundy colour. These types of lipsticks are perfect if you're planning on eating or drinking since they don't budge once they're on. These Matte Lip Liquids also layer very well, so you can reapply without worrying too much about it. And because I love to match my tips to my lips, I also painted my nails with a similar colour, but you could do the total opposite and go for glitter - or even chrome - nails.

BE CHEEKY

Something I learned from a makeup artist working on a shoot is to always do my cheek makeup last when I wear a strong lip. This way, I can judge exactly how much product I need to tie the whole look together. This time, I just went for a little bit of baked bronzer to add some glow and warmth to my face and... voilĂ !

All that was left to do after that was pop my lipstick of the night in my favourite Lulu Guinness clutch and head out the door for a night of festive fun with friends!
