An Evening with Daniel Sandler

Last week, Cigdem and I had the pleasure of attending the Look Fantastic and Daniel Sandler event, at Four London, in Mayfair, where we were greeted with Champagne and macaroons, and treated to a masterclass by the celebrity make up artist himself. Daniel focused on two make up classics, the perfect smokey eye and the timeless red pout. Here are a few tips and tricks on how to recreate the looks :

The Perfect Smokey Eye

Taking your make up from day to night has never been so easy, thanks to Daniel and his modern take on the classic smokey eye, which replaces powder eyeshadows with colourful eyeliner pencils, for an easy, fun and sexy look. Here is how to do it :

Step 1 Line your upper and lower lash line, making sure to get the colour in between the roots of your lashes. To do this, Daniel used his waterproof eyeliner pencil in the colour Blue Velvet, but you could also go for purple, green, or even grey.

Step 2 With an angled brush, soften the line you just created. For a sexy cat eye effect, flick out the colour slightly and blend until you are satisfied with the result. It should be like a soft cloud of colour around your eyes. If it's not... Keep blending!

Step 3 Take a darker colour pencil and repeat step one and two. Make sure the line is slightly thiner, so it creates an ombré effect.

Step 4 Line your lashes using the same dark eyeliner, without blending it this time, before finishing off with several coats of your favourite black mascara. If you want to make your eyes stand out even more and make your eyelashes look even thicker, you can also use one of Daniel's favourite tricks : tightlining (that is lining your waterline, for you and me!)

The Timeless Red Pout

Back in the days when red was the only lipstick colour available, there was no questioning whether or not a woman could wear the statement lip. They just did. Daniel believes that any woman can rock the bold, glamourous hue and that it is all down to how you apply your lipstick. Here are Daniel's tips on how to make red lips work for you.

Technique n°1 Gently pat the lipstick onto your lips, using your middle finger for a natural, stained effect. Your finger will naturally find the curve of your lips, which makes this technique the easiest way to apply red lipstick on the go. It is also great for younger girls and those just starting out with the classic shade.

Technique n°2 Using a lip brush, start applying the colour to your top lip. Chances are, like most women, your bottom lip is naturally fuller than your top one. Concentrating the colour to your top lip will balance them out nicely and give the illusion of a more proportionate pout. Paint your entire lips, blot and repeat. Not only does this allow you to control the intensity of the colour, it will also lock it in and make it last longer.

Another tip Daniel likes to use on his clients is to use concealer outside the lip line, before even applying the lipstick. This gives the illusion of a sharper, cleaner pout and will also prevent the colour from bleeding. Just make sure to remove any trace of concealer from your lips, as it will prevent the lipstick from sticking and denature the colour.

Earlier this month, my sister finally launched her Etsy shop, Turner & Leigh, where she sells a selection of handmade jewelry, including this gorgeous leather wrap bracelets (skull necklaces like this one to be added soon). I have a few of them and they seem to go with every outfit I put together.

Also, if you read my previous blog post, you know that I have been obsessed with animal prints, so when Love sent me this dress a few weeks ago, I knew I had to share it with you. Paired with my favourite boyfriend blazer and chain accessories, I thought it looked chic, yet a little bit edgy. What do you reckon? I'd love your opinion!

In My Wardrobe in 2011

It Bag - My Mulberry Oversized Alexa bag has not left my arm since my sister gave it to me, on my 20th birthday, back in October 2010. It goes with everything, makes any outfit instantly more stylish and is just the perfect size to carry around my everyday essentials. To take a peek at what’s in my bag, click here!

Summer Style - With my parents living only five minutes away from the beach, it is rare for me to properly dress up during the hotter months and last year was no exception. I mainly spent last summer in a bikini, bright-coloured shorts, a loose tank top, gladiator sandals and a pair of Ray-Ban Aviators. One trend I had lots of fun with, though, is colour blocking, which I featured in one of my outfits of the day, back in August. Click here to take a look!

Skinnies - After testing a few high-end denim brands, such as Levi's and 7 for All Mankind, I am not ashamed to say that 2011 saw me remain faithful to my trusty New Look super skinnies. They look great, are very comfortable and I don’t have to limit myself to a couple of pairs, because they are ridiculously affordable.

Sequins - I am addicted to sequins, which I’m pretty sure you’ve all figured out by now! Sequined dresses, such as this gorgeous little number by Motel, have occupied a place of choice in my wardrobe, this past year. I have dressed them up, dressed them down, and you’ve seen me wear them on my birthday, at blogging events and even to work. Who ever said sequins could only come out at night was seriously clueless in the style department…

Prints - Dresses, tops, belts, bags, shoes - animal prints have totally invaded my wardrobe, this year! I have also developed a soft spot for Chevron prints, notably on accessories, like scarves and tights. They’ve even made their way onto my business cards!

Jewellery - I adore chunky jewellery and rarely leave the house without my Michael Kors watch and - at least - one of my chain necklaces. In 2011, I’ve really enjoyed pairing them with more understated pieces, such as a delicate wrap bracelet, a short pendant or a set of extra thin bangles. I find it makes a nice contrast and gives a feminine edge to my outfits.

In My Make-Up Bag in 2011

Skincare - I have been using Clinique extra mild face soap and Dramatically Different lotion for years and added Bobbi Brown hydrating eye cream to my regimen, a few months ago. It’s a trio that works pretty well for me. However, like most girls, I do get bored using the same products all the time and one of my New Year’s resolutions for 2012 is to experiment more with skincare. Exfoliants, masks, brighteners… I cannot wait to share my best finds with you all !

Bath & Body - I tried Philosophy products for the first time in 2011 and instantly fell in love with them, especially the bath and shower gels. Other products I have used consistently, this year, are Soap and Glory Righteous Butter, Lush It's Raining Men and Snow Fairy shower gels, and more recently, The Body Shop Spiced Vanilla and Candied Ginger scrubs and body butters

Hair - I have been using the TRESemmé 24 Hour Body range religiously, since I discovered it in my local Superdrug, last year. My favourite product of the line is by far the Dusting Powder, which helps lift my roots and give volume to my otherwise painfully flat, straight hair.

Perfume - Without being a perfume junky, I must admit to owning quite a few perfumes. Yet, I find myself going back to Stella In Two Peony and Marc Jacobs’ Daisy, year after year. These are respectively the best Autumn/Winter and Spring/Summer fragrances - though after recently testing Prada Candy, I have a sneaky feeling it might become my favourite perfume of 2012… Only time will tell!

Make-Up Brushes - Sigma brushes are a great alternative to the likes of MAC, if you are looking for good quality make-up brushes. I have used them pretty much every single day, in 2011, and I can’t imagine doing my make-up without them.

Face - Although I am not one to wear foundation on a daily basis, I do use concealer most days. Trick and Treatment, by Soap and Glory, has been a life saver, this past year, helping me fake a 12 hours sleep, when in fact, I was still packing for a photo shoot at 10.30 pm and had a 5 am wake-up call the day after. It is a product that I can definitely see myself repurchasing, many times again.

Cheeks - Benefit Hoola has been my bronzer of choice for years and it has remained a favourite of mine throughout 2011. For blusher, I have found myself reaching for my MAC Pink Power Mineralize Skin Finish a lot, over the Summer. I have also really enjoyed By Terry Bronze Expert blush, in Copper Sand, in Autumn and Winter. Other cheek products that deserve a honourable mention include Sleek Rose Gold and ELF Peachy Keen blushes, VIVO baked bronzer in Sun Kiss, MAC My Paradise cheek powder, MAC Stereo Rose mineralize skin finish and Benefit Moon Beam highlighter.

Eyes - Despite owning a ridiculous number of eye shadows, I am ashamed to say that I have pretty much used my custom-made MAC palette and my Urban Decay Naked palette, every day. My look of choice, in 2011, was a subtle wash of colour all over the lid, with a strong black winged liner, as seen here. I mostly used gel liner, but on the occasions I wore pencil eyeliner, I fully relied on my Urban Decay's 24/7 Glide-On Pencils. They have the best staying power and the colours are simply mesmerizing! For mascara, I am happy to report that I have discovered a new staple, this year : Clinique High Impact Mascara. Not only does it thicken my lashes, it also holds the curl like no other. RESULT!

Lips - I have really enjoyed experimenting with lipstick, this year. When I was not wearing one of my favourite nudes, I was most likely rocking bright pinks or deep berry colours. Some of my all time favourite shades are Estée Lauder Crystal Baby, MAC Hue, Crème d'Nude, Patisserie, Chatterbox and Media and Barry M Punky Pink. As for lip glosses, I more or less remained faithful to Jemma Kidd's Petal, Philosophy Sparkling Cranberry, Barry M Toffee and Revlon’s Pink Pop.

Nails - Most people I know have never seen me without nail polish… Sad, but true. Some of my favourite products to achieve a professional-looking manicure at home are Sally Hansen's cuticle remover gel, Lemony Flutter cuticle butter by Lush, and OPI RapiDry top coat. For nail polish, I mostly relied on nudes (Sephora by OPI Going Nude, Eh?, Nails Inc. Caramel), pastels (Beauty UK Peach Melba, ELF Mint Cream), corals (Max Factor Diva Coral, Essie Carousel Coral), golds (Max Factor Ivory, Orly Rage) and, of course, my trusty Chanel Rouge Noir.

On My Blog, in 2011

2011 has been an amazing year, both for me and for my blog. If you had told me when I was typing away in my uni room, that I would be attending events, meeting with fellow bloggers and that people would actually recognise me as the face behind Elle Yeah, I would have referred you to the nearest mental institution!

I am so incredibly grateful for the amazing opportunities that have come my way, this year. Thank you all for making 2011 a fantastic blogging year and let’s make 2012, at least, twice as fun!

Bits and bobs for the house always work a charm, so make sure to stop by Graham and Green, Oliver Bonas or Anthropology.

These Jo Malone candles make for a chic present and will help create the perfect Christmas ambiance.

Make sure to open your presents before dessert, so you get to use these gorgeous Alessi heart-shaped spoons to dig into your Christmas pudding.

More Is More? Aussie Thinks So!

Last night I headed over to the Soho Hotel to celebrate the launch of Aussie's new large size bottles. The event was actually held in the Terrace Suite, which is known for being P. Diddy's favourite suite when visiting the English capital. The champagne was flowing and delicious canapés were served, but that wasn't the only treat Aussie had in store for us. Indeed, we all got to have a one-on-one consultation with the brand's Ambassador and hair stylist, Liz Taw, who gave me a few tips on how to make the most of sleek straight hair.

Never underestimate the power of a good haircut.

If you are like me and have straight hair that lacks volume, make sure to always go for a straight cut. Many people also assume layers give their hair more volume, when in fact, it does completely the opposite and only makes it look finer. So stay away from these and ask for soft layers instead. They will still give some shape to your hair, without taking away any of the thickness and volume.

Get the right products, and learn how to use them.

I generally find that most products in the shops seem to be targeted towards curly, wavy or frizzy hair. Having straight hair, I always assumed I didn't really need any of these. Turns out mousses can do wonders when used sparingly, and in the right place, and no, that doesn't necessarily mean the crown area. It only took Liz seconds to tell me that, because of my face shape and the natural implantation of my hair, I should seek volume on the sides.

If you've got it, flaunt it!

Sometimes, we just don't realise how easy we've got it. Many girls would love to have our hair texture and go through a lot of hard work to achieve this straight, sleek look, often damaging their hair in the process. If Liz taught me one thing, it is to embrace my natural hair and simply learn how to work with it. Surely, this is a piece of advice that anyone can use!

To top it all off, we were kindly given a goodie bag, which in my case, included two ginormous bottles of the Miracle Moist shampoo and conditioner. The Miracle Moist range has long been a favourite of mine, and what is there not to love about having more of it? To quote the lovely team at Aussie, "whoever said less was more, was obviously not an Aussie girl...". I couldn't agree more.

This second week unfortunately marks the end of my internship at More's fashion department. These past two weeks have been amazing, and I can honestly say that it has been one of the most valuable experiences I have ever had. November Glossybox

One of the perks of being able to attend the Motel and Glossybox event a couple of weeks ago, was to get my hands on a free Glossybox. Just like many others, I have been really curious about this service, but never actually got around to subscribe, so when the lovely girls at Glossybox asked me if I would like to try one of their boxes, I just couldn't say no. A few weeks later, the November box was patiently waiting for me on my doorsteps.

The first thing that struck me was how much thought and care had been put into the packaging. The pink box, the tissue paper, the little bow, the card, everything has been done to give the sample box a luxurious feel. That's what Glossybox is all about after all, bringing luxurious samples to your doorsteps.

As for the actual products, here is what I found in my November Glossybox :

Arbonne FC5 Ultra Hydrating Hand Crème
This fancy take on traditional hand cream left my hands soft and moisturised, but also smelling incredibly fresh. The product is very quickly absorbed, and is the perfect addition to any handbag, especially now the weather is getting colder.

Dead Sea Spa Magik Bath Salts
These bath salts claim to relieve dry skin and exfoliate, for a remarkably improved skin texture. It surely sounds heavenly, and I cannot wait to use it next time I have a bath. You can mix it with LUSH Christmas goodies, can't you?

Illamasqua Freak Eau De Parfum
I was fairly excited when I saw this sample of Illamasqua's first venture into fragrance sitting in my box. Unfortunately, the scent is really not my cup of tea. It is way too strong and heavy for me, but if you like this kind of perfume, make sure to check Freak out next time you pass by an Illamasqua counter.

Monu Revitalising Moisturiser
"A light, easily absorbed cream to revive and soften the skin, with soothing cucumber, elderflower and mallow extracts." If I am quoting the Glossybox team here, it is because I still have yet to use this moisturiser. My skin is really dry and sensitive, so sensitive in fact, that even products like Estee Lauder's serums will cause the worst allergic reaction on me, so when I finally find a skin care routine that works for my skin, I tend to stick to it and I am afraid this product is not part of it.

Nail Rock Designer Nail Wraps
If you have been reading my blog for a while, you know that I love nail wraps so much that I even wrote a whole post about them. That being said, the ones I received are a bit out of my comfort zone, but again, this is all part of the Glossybox fun!

If this month's box didn't win me over like I thought it would, I cannot say it put me off either. I probably wouldn't have purchased any of these products myself, but that is why people subscribe to these sample boxes, to make them try new things. I also cannot deny the fact that I felt like a child on Christmas day opening the delicate pink box. Would I subscribe? I don't think so, but I sure enjoyed discovering one of the most popular sample box services out there.

Let me unveil the mystery and introduce you to my new bag, or clutch as it can be worn both ways. It is from Michael Kors and is made out of the most gorgeous python skin leather, making it spot on trend for this season. As much as I love my Mulberry Alexa, I have been wanting to get a smaller bag for a while now. One that I could easily take on a night out, or when I don't need to carry an awful lot around, and this is it! I paired it with this very simple outfit to go see the Lord Mayor's firework display on the London Southbank, and catch up with Sade and Cigdem over a drink last week. You know me though, I couldn't resist throwing some sequins in the mix.

Motel Rocks & Glossybox Event

On Thursday night, I headed to the Motel Rocks showroom in London to preview their latest collection, but also to take a closer look at one of the most popular sample boxes out there, Glossybox. The team behind the event had turned the place into every girl's dream for the occasion, with balloons, pop corn, diet coke, candy floss, wine, bowls and bowls of sweets, a nail bar, cupcakes, cocktails and of course, beautiful clothes - Everything was there to make sure that we all had an amazing time, and we sure did!

We also got the chance to choose an item from the collection to go home with. I obviously went for a sequinned little number that I cannot wait to share with you in an outfit post! Glossybox were also very kind, treating us to delicious cupcakes, but also giving us the chance to win a special box if we could guess the number of products in it. I obviously went for a reasonable number instead of my lucky one, 17. Turns out, there were 17 products in the box! Don't worry though, you will still get to have a peek inside the November box, courtesy of the Glossybox girls.

It was really nice to see some friendly faces, but also some new ones, like Zoe, or Michelle from Daisybutter. We have been following each other for a while now, and she was so sweet. Oh, and yes, her white and rose gold Alexa is to die for, but that I already knew.

Shiny New Things

After reading my birthday post, many of you were curious about what I got for my birthday, and especially what I picked up in Bicester Village, so here we go! There is another item that I want to share with you, but not just yet. Let me give you a hint... It is a bag, and no it is not from Mulberry. Or is it?

Remember this post? Well, apparently my parents did, because they got me this Michael Kors watch. I am not one to ask for presents, or anything really, so I was really surprised they knew I wanted this. My only explanation is that my mum must be reading this blog so... Bonjour, maman!

You all know how much I love Mulberry, so when I saw they had a shop in Bicester Village, I knew I was going to get something. After looking at beautiful bags, and debating whether or not I needed another oversised Alexa, I decided to be reasonable and get something I actually needed : a card holder for my brand new business cards of course!

It is no secret that I like tough looking pieces, so as soon as my sister saw this Temperley bracelet, she knew I would want it. And she was right! I absolutely love the rich brown leather and the gold spike detailing. In fact, I love it so much, I just wish I had picked up the black version as well!

I realised a few months ago that my shoe collection was lacking one essential : a pair of good quality black ballerina flats.As much as I'd like to say that I can walk around London in 5 inch stilettos, it is just not the case, so when I saw these in Versace, I had to get them. Now, since these have a silver bow detail, does that mean I can still justify getting the Tory Burch ones? I think so, don't you?

On a completely different note, I am going to the Motel Rocks and Glossybox event tonight. So many people I know are going, it should be fun!

Birthday Girl

October 1990 issue of Vogue UK, a previous present from my sister.

If you follow me on Twitter, you know I turned 21 last month. The celebration started early last month, when my sister treated me to an Idina Menzel's concert, and did not end before Britney Spears's show at the O2 Arena last Friday. The whole month ended up being filled with birthday fun! I had such an amazing time, and even though I cannot blog about everything I did to celebrate, I can certainly share some of the best moments with you.

On the night of the 16th, my sister and I went to Ping Pong, on the Southbank. We spent the night laughing out loud, eating more than our fair share of dim sum, and sipping on some of the best cocktails I have ever had, and believe me, that is a lot of cocktails! These lychee and rose martinis were absolutely delicious, so make sure to try them if you are ever going to one of the Ping Pong restaurants. I promise you won't regret it!

On my actual birthday, my sister and I hopped on a train to Bicester Village, but not before a good Starbucks breakfast. For those of you who don't know, Bicester Village is a designer outlet for high-end brands, such as Mulberry, Alexander McQueen, Dior, Gucci, etc. There is even a Cosmetic Company Store, which sells some of my all-time favourite make-up brands, including MAC, Estée Lauder, or even Bobbi Brown. Needless to say, my sister and I literally shopped 'til we dropped!

No birthday would be complete without a night out with friends! It just happened that one of my best friends, Niamh, was flying all the way from Dublin to Exeter that week, so I decided to have my birthday night out over there. We first went out to dinner in our favourite restaurant, before hitting the club. I had such a great night! The next day, my friends surprised me with not only one, but two home made birthday cakes and the cutest birthday present : my very first Pandora charm to put on the brand new Pandora bracelet they had also got me. Did I already mention that I have the best friends in the world?

I'd just like to thank everyone that contributed to making this birthday unforgettable, it sure worked!

I had absolutely no idea what I was going to wear until the very morning of the event, but eventually opted for my trusty Alexander Wang skirt, that I paired with my new glittery shoes and my favourite hat. As for jewellery, I kept it pretty simple, and only wore my Moschino watch, and one of my skull necklaces. My sister actually makes these, and I absolutely love them. They're probably my most worn pieces of jewellery at the moment! This is the gold version, but you can see me wearing the rose gold one over here.

I also wanted to let you know that I finally moved into my new place, so expect a lot more posts on this blog from now on. I have so many exciting things that I cannot wait to share with you all!

Like many other beauty and fashion bloggers, I headed over to Mayfair on Saturday to attend The Only Way Is Blogging. It was a great opportunity for bloggers to get together, have a few drinks, share some tips and tricks, and to get to know the people behind the blogs. It was really nice to meet some of the girls whose blogs I have been reading for months, like the lovely Jessica from Sparks & Fireworks, or Rachel with whom I could have literally spent hours talking about France. I even got to meet one of my followers, which I really did not expect!

The event itself was a real success! The day was filled with things for us to do ; makeup demonstrations from FashionistA and VIVO, an HTLM and a photography workshop, and finally, a Q&A session with Lily, Kate and Hayley. A few of us nipped to Green Park after the event to enjoy the beautiful weather and shoot some more photos...Obviously! What else did you expect from fashion bloggers after all?

MFW S/S12 Highlights

D & G

There was no sign of sadness as the models walked their last ever D&G catwalk. Instead, from the very moment the music started, we knew we were onto a good one. The looks were bright, fun and feminine and surprisingly enough, felt a lot more sophisticated than the brand's previous collections, which had probably something to do with D&G merging with its big sister, Dolce & Gabana. Scarves in bright hues and bold patterns were wrapped around the body, creating an array of ruched mini dresses, tops, skirts and shoes. As often when working with foulards, one cannot not mention Hermès as an undeniable source inspiration, but in this case, there was also a little bit of vintage Versace's extravagance thrown in for good measure. This is what I call going out with a bang!

Max Mara

Sophisticated tailoring and lean, athletic silhouettes have always been Italian brand, Max Mara's signature, and this season is no exception. The pieces were easy to wear, perfect to go shopping on Via Montenapoleone on a not-so-hot summer day. Indeed, minimalist outerwear was the main focus of this Spring/Summer collection, with narrow three-quarter length coats, tailored blazers and motocross jackets with ribbed cuffs for a sporty twist on this classical piece. As for the colour palette, it was all pretty neutral with the exception of a bright aqua shade, reminding us that it is spring after all.

Prada

Sweet with a sexy, sassy twist would be the perfect way to discribe Miuccia Prada's latest collection. The silhouette was very much 50s inspired, with pieces such as capes, pin-up swimsuits, cat-eye sunglasses and knee-length skirts in ice-cream shades. Still, Prada's woman was far from being all sweet. Her hair was greasy, and the feminine pleating often paired with leather, longer skirts with tight bandeau tops, the delicate blouses covered in little cars, and her shoes flaming hot - literally!

LFW S/S12 Highlights

Matthew Williamson

Bold, colourful, fresh and sexy. These are the first things that come to mind when looking at Williamson's latest collection. Not only is it the first time in history the Tate's Turbine Hall opens its door to a fashion show, it is also Williamson's first collaboration with shoe designer Charlotte Olympia. As for the clothes, there were beautiful tailored trousers, shorts, and blazers in every colour, paired with soft chiffon blouses. Embroidered with ostrich feathers and beads, the dresses were magnificent, perfect for the numerous A-listers that were, once again, gracing the front row.

Antonio Berardi

Italian sophistication mixed with British edginess? This is exactly what the Italian designer has to offer this season. Patent leather, sequins and beads were matched with softer materials, such as chiffon, for a much appreciated twist on his typical structured look. Some more tailored pieces were introduced throughout the show, including shorter dresses and structured blazers, but overall, this remains a really refreshing collection from the designer who got us used to a stricter silhouette. Don't be fooled by the delicate fabrics though, Berardi's woman is still strong and empowered, and I personally love it!

Burberry Prorsum

Get ready for a rainy English summer with Burberry's S/S 12 collection. Indeed, the show opened on a series of coats, all in rich shades of dark plum, bronze, and forest green that seemed more appropriate for a winter in the countryside than a summer on the seaside. Instead, Christopher Bailey is paying homage to all things natural. Not only was the catwalk in the middle of Hyde Park, the clothes themselves incorporated some various natural elements such as crocheted wooden beads, or even raffia which was notably used on clutches and hoods. Being green and stylish had never been that easy!

Paul Smith

Menswear cut for girls in unexpected colour combinations was all over the catwalk at Paul Smith. Boundaries were blurring between men and women, as the models walked the runaway rocking leopard print loafers and boots, echoing the leopard print boots from the designer's menswear collection. Men's formal pieces were mixed with more feminine blouses and accessories for an effortlessly chic look. With messy bed hair and her boyfriend's clothes on, Smith's woman is ready to stay cool in the summer heat.

NYFW S/S12 Highlights

Jason Wu

If you were thinking Jason Wu had nothing new to offer, you might want to reconsider. The designer, who is famous for his perfect tailoring and sleek silhouettes, offered a surprisingly edgy S/S collection. Collaborating with none other than graffiti artist KAWS, Wu took a risk and introduced the audience to a refreshing and certainly more rock'n'roll woman. The graphic black and white ensembles were followed by confident brights, and a strong floral print designed by KAWS himself which were paired with bold orange lips and matching nails for maximum effect.

DKNY

The set doesn't leave much to the imagination. Summer in the City is without a doubt the inspiration for this show. Donna Karan's collection started with a fresh idea of black and white looks, quickly followed by red, blue and last but not least, florals. As for the silhouettes, they were loose and breezy, perfect for surviving the heat, or simply hopping in a yellow cab to the nearest rooftop pool.

Kevork Kiledjian

Kiledjian is bringing sexy back, this Spring. It is what the designer does best and he isn't afraid to show it. The cuts and materials are fantastic, and the designs themselves are the epitome of sexy. Skintight strapless leather dresses, short hemlines, and leather bomber vests are mixed with delicate olive and hot pink florals, powder pink sequins, classic cuts and neutral shades for a well-balanced collection. Some might call it eclectic, I call it a success.

Luca Luca

For Spring 2012, Raul Melgoza is taking us on a relaxed summer cruise on the Mediterranean. His signature sharp silhouette disappeared in favour of softer lines, in an ode to women's sensuality. If the prints were for many the highlight of this collection, the colour combinations definitely stole the show for me. The lime green paired with the light aqua was a refreshing sight after the pinks, oranges and corals that were all the rage last spring.

Marc by Marc Jacobs

Faithful to its usual quirkiness, the Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring 2012 line went against the grain and was all about colours - bold, solid colours. Separates came in a variety of shapes and hues, but the real genius was to combine them all. Bright neons were paired with tailored navy blue pieces, whereas corals were matched to earthy neutrals. Among all the prints we've been seeing lately, this collection felt like a breeze of fresh air and I loved it!

Vera Wang

Knowing Vera Wang's work, it should come to no surprise that her latest show looked like a twisted fairytale. Inspired by Alice in Wonderland, the show opened on a series of all-white looks, highlighting the perfect tailoring and light fabrics used, such as chiffon, organza and tulle. Colour slowly made its way onto the catwalk, starting with soft greys, pale peppermint, and ending up with bright psychedelic prints. If wishing upon a star really worked, I can only wish for some of these pieces to make their way into my wardrobe.

Long Hot Summer

The French border, as seen when I first moved to England last year.

Another great summer comes to an end. It has been one of the best summers I ever had. I think being away for a year made me realise how lucky I am to call this place home. There is nothing quite like summer on the French Riviera and this year was no exception, but I guess it was time for reality to kick back in. I am off to London tomorrow. The blog is probably going to be a bit quieter than usual and updates might be a bit sparse until I am finally settled down in my new place. I hope you all understand and are excited to start this new adventure with me. I know I am!

On The Road

Living so close to the border, it is not rare for my family and I to take a day-trip to Italy. We usually go to Vintimillia for its extensive market, or to San Remo for its beautiful beaches and restaurants. Although I love doing this, I had never actually seen much of the rest of the Ligurian Riviera, so we decided to stop for lunch on our way to Milan in one of my mum's favourite places, Portofino. It is to Italy what Saint Tropez is to France ; a gorgeous little seaside town made famous in the 60s for its exclusive parties and guests. Just like its French equivalent, it is the perfect place to soak up the sun, relax and share a delicious meal, which is exactly what we did.

I Know A Girl With The Golden Touch

In the summer, beach bars all around the French Riviera fill up with people enjoying delicious cocktails or a refreshing glass of wine, and watching the sunset over the sea. It is something my friends and I often indulge in, and this is exactly what we did on Saturday night. We went to our favourite bar and sipped on some all time favourites, trying to make the most of the last few days of summer.

We decided to go quite casual, so I opted for black shorts that I paired with a light metallic sweater. Metallics are all over the shops at the moment, and I have to say that I am loving this trend. I found this necklace on ebay, after reading about it on Vipxo. I have always wanted the House of Harlow one, but could never get my hands on the leather version so I was thrilled to find this cheaper alternative. You can find it here.

Oh, Those Summer Nights

Summer has always been my favourite time of the year. If nothing's better than hitting the beach during the day, my town really comes to life once the sun goes down. There is always something to do, whether it is a impromptu silent disco on the beach, fireworks, a walk through the night market on the harbour, or just going out for a few drinks in one of the many seafront bars.

This is what I wore last night when after having spent the whole day at the beach, my cousin and I decided to go out for sushi and cocktails. It was lovely and we were lucky enough to be sat outside and watch the sun set over the sea from our table. In fact, it was so nice that we are considering going back on Sunday with a few of our friends. If you're ever in the area and want some good quality sushi, I highly recommend this place.

Also, you may have noticed that there is now a little hype button under the first picture. As a matter of fact I just registered to Lookbook.nu. There isn't much yet, but I am determined to post a lot more, so don't forget to check my page out for some more outfits.

Style Crush : Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

She may be your favourite Victoria's Secret Angel, or just the newest female lead in the Transformers series, but one thing is sure, you have probably already heard of Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. She was notably featured in Vogue's March edition of "Today I am wearing..." showcasing her personnal style, a perfect mix of British edginess and Hollywood glamour. Now if you want to know how to get the look, here are a few tips.

Skinnies

Skinnies are a staple in any woman's wardrobe, including Rosie's. They show off her perfect curves and contribute to her off-duty effortless look. She wears them in a variety of textures and colours, but her favourites remain J Brand's skinny jeans, or her Les Chiffoniers leather leggings. Obviously, you don't have to splurge on these exact same brands. You can find skinny trousers in pretty much any high street shop, such as Topshop or New Look. Levi's Curve ID range is also a good place to look, if you want good quality, yet relatively inexpensive skinny jeans.

Statement Jackets

Whether she goes for a structured blazer, a studded biker jacket or an embellished cardigan, Rosie sure knows how to spice up any simple outfit. Don't worry if you can't afford Rosie's Burberry leather jacket or Isabel Marant blazer, not many of us can. Shops like River Island and Topshop offer a great range of good quality jackets for only a fraction of the price.

Bronzed Skin

Despite being English, Rosie's skin is always the perfect shade of bronze. Her skin is flawless without ever looking caky, so stay away from heavy foundations and choose a light tinted moisturiser instead. Next, apply bronzer where the sun would naturally hit, that is all the high points of your face ; cheekbones, temples, forehead, bridge of the nose and chin. To keep this look as dewy as possible, opt for a cream bronzer like Chanel Soleil de Tan. Add a golden highlight to the top of your cheekbones and finish off the look by applying Nars Orgasm multiple to the apple of the cheeks for that gorgeous rosy glow that the model always seems to have.

Hats

Large floppy hats add a romantic twist to Rosie's bohemian outfits, whereas a wide-brimmed fedora gives her casual look a rock and roll edge. The secret is to choose the right shape for your face, but most importantly, to wear it with confidence. A good place to start looking would be H&M, which just came out with some gorgeous hats, as part of their autumn collection.

Tousled Locks

Victoria's Secret Angels are known for their long luscious waves, and Rosie is no exception. To achieve her sexy look, start off by applying your favourite heat-protectant spray then loosely curl the hair away from your face, using a large 1 1/2" curling iron. There is no need to use the clamp, instead just start from the roots, and twirl the hair around the iron. This will give it a softer look. Gently run your fingers through it to separate the curls, before finishing off with some light hold hairspray.

Red Carpet Ready

If Rosie's off-duty style is effortlessly chic, her red-carpet looks are fun, glamourous and sexy. Her secret? Keeping it fresh and simple. Try and remember this when getting ready for a night out. If you are going to go for a sequinned mini, or a sexy cut-out dress or any other statement outfit, keep the accessories to a minimum and opt for messy hair to avoid looking overdone.

As I said on my How To Survive Festivals post, I really think festival fashion is all about, fun, bright accessories. Floral headbands are definitely one of these. You see them on everyone's head, every year, but you still end up buying them. This year was no exception and I am glad I decided to wear mine on the first day, before everyone else did. As for the bracelets, I got a few sets from H&M for a few pounds and wore them all weekend with my Beach Break wristband. I also brought with me a bright pink pair of sunglasses from Primark and some black Wayfarers that my sister got me a few years ago. You can see me wearing them in my previous Beach Break post here.

Haute Couture A/W11 Favourites

It seems that everyone has already blogged about the couture shows and no matter what I write, you will have read it many times before. To save you some time, I will just post a few of my personal favourites. Surprisingly enough, I didn't really enjoy Chanel. I usually find Karl Lagerfeld's work fascinating, especially his couture work, but I found it a bit disappointing this time. I cannot quite point out what it was, but it just didn't do anything for me. Instead, here are the looks that really caught my eye this season .

Made In England

If you follow me on Twitter, you know that I am now officially a university graduate. I wanted to get myself something to celebrate and is there any better way to end a year in England than to treat yourself to some Mulberry goodies? I don't think so! It just happened that the factory shop was on my way and after reading about it online, I was more than curious to check what it was about. They actually had a lot of stock, including some past season items, but also some more recent ones although they didn't have any Tillie for me to grab. Smaller items were up to 30% off, whereas bags were about 15% off. The only thing that was heavily discounted was the damaged section, but unfortunately nothing really caught my eye. I would still recommend you go, if only to get some delicious cake from their cute little café.

The first thing I picked up was a small Concertina purse. I absolutely love the gold hardware, and although it doesn't have any card slots, it is actually really roomy. I got it to use when I go out since it is so small, it fits in all my clutches and doesn't look bulky at all. I also bought a Long Locked Purse for my sister, but I gave it to her later that day, so I don't have any pictures of it.

My next purchase was a leopard Mitzy pouch in the colour Grape. I've been wanting it for ages, so I was so excited to see they had it. The leather is so nice and thick, and the colour really makes it stand out.

Mulberry Resort 2012 Collection

Emma Hill sure knows what we want to be wearing this summer : girly dresses, flowers, bright pink and light denim. This collection ticks all the boxes. It is fun and fresh, but still has this Mulberry signature look to it. The three new handbags for this season - Effie, Harriet and Evelina - are the perfect arm candy and are sure to be seen on the likes of Sienna Miller or Alexa Chung in absolutely no time.

Beach Break Live

Versace for H&M

It is the moment everyone has been waiting for... H&M finally announced their next designer collaboration, and it is none other than Italian brand Versace. According to Donatella Versace, "The collection will be quintessential Versace, perfect for H&M and Versace fans everywhere.", and although I can't help but remembering how reluctant she was to colaborate with the Swedesh brand back in 2008, I also cannot wait to see the full collection and eventually get my hands on some of the pieces.

The collection which includes womenwear, menwear and accessories will be available in on the 17th of November in Europe and on the 19th in over 300 H&M across the world and online.

How To Survive Festivals In Style

It is that time of the year again, festival season. On my list this year? We, The People, Beach Break Live and Les Voix du Gaou. You've got your camping equipment sorted, you stocked up on dry shampoo and baby wipes, but what are you bringing in your rucksack? So whether you are going to Reading, V, Oxygen or the almighty Glastonbury, here is a few tips on how to survive this summer tradition in style.

Clothing

Think about outfits that don't require any effort when you wake up after a bad night's sleep or a heavy day of dancing to your favourite bands. Playsuits and dresses are perfect for this. Shorts and tops are also a good option since you can mix and match them and make more than one use out of them.

Footwear

Be wise when picking which shoes to bring. It goes without saying, but heels do not belong in festivals, never. Not only would they be impractical, they would also make you look like a fool. Depending on where the festival is taking place, you might want to consider bringing wellies or sandals, although I wouldn't recommend wearing them for the actual performances. Instead, favour closed shoes like brogues, Converses, Ked's, or these really cute Liberty of London for Bensimon trainers. Remember comfort is key when it comes to festival fashion.

Layer Up

It might be sunny during the day, but it is less than likely that your little dress is going to keep you warm once the sun goes down, so make sure to bring things you can easily layer : cardigans, hoodies, tights, scarves, etc.

Accessories

We all know that accessories can easily take an outfit to another level, even when it comes to festival fashion. Hats and sunglasses are a must have, but if you were thinking about bringing your dad's vintage Ray-Bans, you might want to think about it twice. Instead, bring a few pairs of fun, cheap sunglasses as they are most likely to get lost. Don't forget to bring a watch too. It would be unfortunate to miss your favourite act because your phone's battery died, don't you think?

Make Up

You wouldn't want to miss out on the festival fun, just because your fake eyelashes need a little touch up, would you? That's exactly what I am talking about. Keep your makeup as minimal as possible. All you need is a little concealer, maybe a tiny bit of bronzer, eyeliner, mascara, lip balm and you are good to go! If you really can't survive only on these, why not try to squeeze in an all-in-one product? Even better, why don't you grab it for free? With this month's Galmour you can get your hands on baby sized versions of Benefit's BeneTint, PosieTint or even High Beam.

And last, but not least...

... Have fun! Don't forget the little things that make camping with your friends even more fun : glitters, costumes, giant sunnies, glowsticks, etc. You would be amazed to see what people sometimes bring to festivals. For instance, my friend Ed always brings his giant Pikachu onesie, which never fails to make everyone's night.

Minx Nails on a Budget

I am wearing 200 Metallic Gold, whereas my sister is wearing 201 Metallic Silver.

Remember this post? I was expressing my love for Minx nails, and I am not the only one. Blake Lively, Rihanna, Pink, Beyonce... They have all rocked the metallic fingertips before, but at £30 it is not for everyone's budget. Thank goodness, the high street is finally catching up. You can now find nail polish stickers in Boots, or Superdrug. The ones my sister and I used are from a company called Elegant Touch and only cost a mere £5.99. Each pack contains 60 transfers in 10 different sizes, allowing up to 4 applications. They are really easy to use, and although the quality isn't living up to its higher end version, they are perfect for a night out, or any other special occasion. If you like Minx nails as much as I do, you might want to check these out.

Girls' Night Out

To celebrate the end of exams, I went out for cocktails with a couple of friends on Wednesday night. We went to my favourite cocktail bar where I indulged in some of my favourite drinks. It was the perfect occasion to doll up a bit, considering we hadn't been out in ages. I eventually got the bright coral skirt from my summer wishlist which I paired with a nude top, gold jewellery, gold sandals and pink nails and lipstick.

I am sorry for the poor quality of this photo. I have yet to buy a tripod and a remote so I am afraid that a good old photobooth picture will have to do for now.

Unfortunately, I couldn't make it this year since I had to go back to England for uni, but I just stumbled across these videos and thought I would share them with you.

What's In My Bag

I don't know about you, but I love seeing what is in other people's bags so I figured it was time for me to do my own "what's in my bag" post.

This is the bag I am carrying at the moment, a Mulberry oversized Alexa. It was a birthday present from my amazing sister for my 20th birthday and I have been using it pretty much every day since then. The leather is the softest and the longer strap is just so convenient when you are running around campus.

Here is what you can find in my bag. Obviously I didn't include the ton of receipts and pens that are usually in there.

Ted Baker purse, Ray-Ban sunglasses, Keys, Passport

I have to say I always loved Ted Baker purses, so when I saw this one in the sale last summer I bought it straight away. The keychain came with the Mulberry by Target small cross-body bag that I got a few months ago. I also always have a pair of sunglasses with me, usually my Ray-Ban aviators in a classic gold and smoked green shade. I find that these go with most outfits and I don't need to worry when I put them on. I always carry my passport since I found that some places in the UK don't accept French IDs.

Moleskine diary, Vogue notebook, iPod, Cath Kidston hand cream

I use this bag to go to all my classes and appointments, so it is essential for me that I carry my dairy so I can make sure I never forget anything. I keep anything blog-related in this tiny Vogue notebook. The iPod is pretty self-explanatory. The Cath Kidston hand cream is here to make sure that I never have dry hands since I tend to have very dry skin, and let's be honest, it also smells delicious!

Camera, EOS lip balm, Gum, Sweeteners, Phone

I don't necessary keep my SLR camera with me all the time, instead I keep a Casio Exilim S10 point-and-shoot. It's a really nice camera to take pictures of friends, nights out, concerts, or anything else that doesn't require high quality photography. The case I keep it in is from Paperchase. The EOS lip balm in Summer Fruits is another gift from my sister. You can't buy this in Europe so I was really surprised she managed to get me one. I always have gum and sweeteners with me. The sweetener case was limited edition by Chantal Thomas for Canderel. Surprisingly enough I don't have an iPhone, but a Nokia N97 mini that I keep in this Cath Kidston case.

My make-up bag and its content

I always keep a tiny bit of make-up with me, just in case I decide to go somewhere and don't have time to go back home. I try to keep things that can easily make the transition from day to night if needed. The make-up bag itself was from Primark.

Kate Middleton looked stunning as she walked down the isle in an Alexander McQueen dress, designed by Sarah Burton. The dress was everything I expected from her : stylish and yet traditional, with a V-neck décolleté and long lace sleeves. She finished off the look with a Cartier Halo tiara lent to her by the Queen herself. William looked just as wonderful in his Irish Guards uniform. The whole wedding was beautiful and there is no doubt it was a fantastic day for everyone.

Many people have said how Catherine's dress looked like the dress worn by Grace Kelly on her own wedding day. I have to disagree with that. Both dresses have long lace sleeves, certainly, but the shape is completely different. The décolleté is a perfect example of these differences. Kate's is a V-neck whereas Grace Kelly's a high neck. Overall, I'd say that Kate Middleton's dress is nothing but a far cry from Grace Kelly's.

There Is No Place Like Home

Trinity Ball

You might have noticed that I hadn't updated this blog for a while. The reason behind this is that I have been quite the travel bee in the past couple of weeks. I first went to visit my sister in London before heading to Dublin for the biggest student event of the year : Trinity Ball. In case you haven't heard about Trinity Ball, not only is it the biggest private party in Ireland, but it is also the biggest private party in Europe! Imagine a festival, with a black tie dress code, set in one of the oldest and most beautiful university campuses of Ireland with an amazing line-up and five different stages: this what I am talking about. The headliners for this year's ball included The Streets, Katy B, Bell X1, Jessie J, Professor Green and Simian Mobile Disco to name just a few. Needless to say, I had a ball! I also found out that I really can't pout that night. Oh well...

Now, on to the part you actually want to hear about : the outfit. As for make up, I went with a very summery look with bronzy skin, golden eyes and coral lips. It was a summer ball after all.

PFW A/W11 Highlights

Louis Vuitton

Welcome to the Hotel Vuitton. Set in the loby, Marc Jacobs introduces us to the highly fashionable staff, wearing moulded leather bodices, coated leather, rubber skirts, and sheer pieces. The clothing was both voluminous and minimal at the same time, with a focus on the sleeves, colars and fitted pencil skirts. As Kate Moss is walking down the catwalk, waving a cigarette, I can't help but thinking that this collection was smoking.

Balmain
With a new stylist and an absent Creative Director, Balmain's show definitely managed to surprise. For her first collection, Mélanie Ward took a chance and toned down the brand's punk signature look. The trademark shouldered blazers, metallic leather and beaded pieces were still there but the skin-tight trousers left place to breezy silhouettes, with cuffed trousers and notably Balmain's first ever jumpsuit. If Emmanuelle Alt's years are behind, Mélanie Ward showed us that there is a lot more to come for the brand.

Christian Dior
Regardless of the recent scandal involving John Galliano, this collection was, admittedly, as beautiful as ever. If the evening pieces' textures and layering were a pleasure to look at, the highlight of the show had to be the day wear. The girls were the perfect picture of the quintessential romantic Galliano woman, with sheer pastel chiffon, lace and tulle. We can only be thankful that "the heart of the House of Dior, which beats unseen, made up of its teams and studios, of its seamstresses and craftsmen" managed to keep this Galliano touch for the designer's last official collection for Dior.

Elie Saab

Once again, Elie Saab managed to blend innovation and classic, simple silhouettes for a show that left me speechless. The designer plays with colour with an intense colour palette going from black, to dark purple and strong coral red, and textures with leather and crepe. Dress after dress, Saab's lastest collection didn't cease to impress me with his modern and yet timeless cuts.

Lanvin
Elbaz went dark for this collection. The gothic tree and the clothes were reminiscent of another time with plain, coated or caped looks, pilgrim shoes and what Vogue came to call "church-lady handbags", but as it is often the case with Lanvin, the details were everything. The metallic jewellery, the textures, the drapes, the zippers : every single details was opening the way for the finale and the colourful dresses that made the success of Elbaz for Lanvin.

Miu Miu
This 40s-inspired collection was exactly what you could expect from Miu Miu. Following this season's trend of the muddy colour palette, Prada's little sister went all out with exaggerated, structural shapes. Still, the outfits were up to date thanks to the sparkly shoes and bare legs, giving it a modern twist. I have to say that, as much as I liked the clothes, what really struck me was the accessories. The oversized clutch bags and the sunglasses are definitely going on my ultimate wishlist as I am typing this.

Valentino
Outerwear was the main success of this Valentino A/W11 show. Nude knitted coats, cardigan coats, leather slim trench coats : there was something for everyone, but what's underneath the coat for the Valentino woman? A black lace skirt paired with a ribbed crew-neck sweater, or sleek cashmere dresses and surprisingly enought, prints. The finishing touch remains the studs, that have come to be the house trademark after the success of their famous T-strap shoes.

Zac Posen
Zac Posen's A/W collection is all about the silhouette, with an emphasis on the waist as it is often the case with him. The models were rocking the hourglass shape in the nicest shades of blue. One thing that I can really see going from the catwalk to the high street is the skinny cropped trousers, and if I am still not sure if I am ready to wear the bright blue eye shadow look, I sure love it.

Emmanuelle Alt was announced to succeed to Carine Roitfeld back in December, but she didn't get to sign her first issue until now. If Roitfeld was often accused of not being commercial enough, Alt's first issue's cover features one of the most popular models of our time, Gisele Bündchen in D&G S/S 11. There is no doubt that it is the start of a new era for Vogue Paris.

Style Crush : Olivia Palermo

In the past couple of years, Olivia Palermo has achieved a lot more than just being a socialite, or another pretty girl on TV, she has become a real style icon and it is not rare to see her sitting front row at NYFW, or on the glossy pages of a magazine. She has even been featured on Vogue's Best Dressed List of 2010. Her outfits are chic and yet really simple, and the fact that she often mixes designer pieces with high street brands makes her style even more approachable. If you like Olivia's style as much as I do, here are some tips on how to incorporate some of her signature look into your wardrobe.

The Blazer

The blazer is without a doubt one of her signature pieces. Actually, if you take a closer look at the pictures above, she is wearing a blazer in every single one of them. Investing in some good quality blazers is something I would recommend to everyone since they are so versatile. But who said blazers had to be plain and boring? Take inspiration from Olivia and pick unusual shapes and materials to give this classic piece a modern twist. A good place to start shopping for blazers would be one of the socialite's favourite highstreet shops, Zara.

The Designer Bag

If there is one thing to learn from Olivia's style, it is the power of a nice bag. It can make even the plainest outfit look amazing, and adds some sense of luxury to the cheapest pieces. Olivia's collection includes legendary bags such as the Birkin from Hermès, Chanel's 2.55, Mulberry's Alexa, as well as an extensive collection of designer clutches to make sure that any outfit is fabulous.

Statement Costume Jewellery

This one is particularly obvious considering she designed a collection of necklaces for Roberta Freymann and if you have ever watched The City, you know that oversized necklaces are one of Olivia's treadmarks, alongside chunky bracelets and statement rings. Maybe it is time to give in and get this YSL Arty Ring that you've been eyeing for months then?

Leather Leggings

Whether she wears them during the day with flats for a casual look, or with a sequinned top and killer heels for an ELLE party, leather leggings are a staple in Olivia's wardrobe. If hers are from Daryl K and cost $895, you can easily find cheaper alternatives in high street shops like ASOS, Topshop or River Island and look just as fabulous.

Flawless Face

Have you ever noticed how perfectly put together she looks? It is not all about the outfit, but also about the makeup. Her skin is always flawless and dewy. To recreate that, try a foundation like Chanel Vita Lumière with a touch of YSL Touche Eclat under the eye for a glowy and healthy look. Although she usually keeps it natural with a bit of liner, she also wears fake eyelashes most of the time. She even confessed that her secret to doe eyes is self-adhesive Revlon eyelashes. Add a swipe of black gel liner and you are good to go.

The Ultimate Arm Candy

This might be the hardest thing to find : a German model boyfriend, but it definitely looks good with everything. I am just kidding here, but I have to say that I will probably never get tired of looking at Johannes Huebl and to be honest, who would?

MFW A/W11 Highlights

Roberto Cavalli
The rock'n'roll gypsy woman from Spring has changed : she is now tougher and seductive. If spring was all about delicate femininity, Autumn is all about fierceness, and I have to say that I absolutely love it!

Emporio Armani

Playing on the silhouette, this collection is featuring plenty of variations on trousers, skirts, jackets, coats and jumpsuits. Yet, trousers were belted for a pannier effect, shoulders were ruffled and pieces were layered for an interesting take on 1940s film noir. My favourite part? The jackets. They were exactly what you would expect from Armani's signature urban chic.

Gianfranco Ferré

Classic pieces might have been following each other on the catwalk, but they were never boring. From the very first look, a cashmere coat which buttoned up on one side and had two sculptural, satin-edged lapels and a stand-up collar, we could see how Tommaso Aquilano and Roberto Rimondi reworked a woman's must haves in a structural and graphic way.

Fendi

Easy and chic, this is what Fendi's A/W 11 collection was. With pieces like knee-length skirts, buttoned-up blouses or even sweatpants in slouchy cashmere, it might have looked simple, but the colours, shapes and materials made this collection feel extremely luxurious. This is exactly what I was expecting from the Italian legendary house.

Gucci
Gucci's 90th anniversary show was greatly inspired by the 70s, with culottes, pussy-bow blouses and sweater vests or fedoras. To give these pieces a modern twist Giannini went for surprising materials such as fur, python and leather. If this was already a good surprise, the evening wear was the highlight of the show with long, sheer, drapped gowns.

Moschino
Playing on masculinity and femininity, tailcoats, tuxedos and riding jackets were the main focus of the show. If that sounds boring to you, you might want to take a second look. Indeed, most of the looks featured classic, timeless pieces but with an unexpected detail like a velvet bow, revers in a rose print, hot pink cummerbund or a captain's hat.

Moschino Cheap&Chic

Rossella Jardini chose to divide this collection by fashion capital : Milan, London, Paris and New York. Each city was introduced by a shift dress in a photo print of a famous landmark such as the Eiffel Tower or the Statue of Liberty. Milan was beige and sparkly, London was all about tartan, Paris was black and oddly enough, anything but chic and New York was sporty and glam. The designer might have said that Milan was "a little boring", but it was the highlight of the show as far as I am concerned.

Francesco Scognamiglio

"This is my favourite collection in the last ten years" said the designer and I have to say, it is one of my favourite too. I can't get over the beautiful gowns with the thight-high slits, keyhole dresses and silk blouses. No wonder Madonna decided to wear one of his pieces to the Vanity Fair Oscar party.

LFW A/W11 Highlights

Matthew Williamson

Inspired by Russian avant-garde painter Francisco Infante-Arana, Williamson's latest collection is the perfect balance between his signature soft boho-chic and edgy details like leather sleeves or studs. You all know that this is right up my street!

Christopher Kane

"It's fantastic" said the designer about the curious liquid-look plastic used on the dresses for his Autumn/Winter collection. The result was fascinating and unusual, but it was not the only fun Kane had with textures this season. From printed leather and crochet to sequins, Kane surprised us for an unexpected and yet acclaimed collection.

Vivienne Westwood Red Label

Plaid, pinstripe, velvet, chunky knits and school uniforms are mixed together for a cool and quirky collection, West London style. But don't be fooled by the styling, hair and makeup at Vivienne Westwood, a lot of the pieces were actually quite wearable.

Burberry Prorsum

Burberry established itself as a reference in terms of outerwear a long time ago, but it was made even more obvious this season. Coats in all shapes, materials and colours were the main highlight of the show, if not of the London Fashion Week itself. They were followed by various black and white looks, perfect for the white winter that Burberry offered us.

Mulberry

This time Emma Hill is showing us how to be the perfect English rose in the countryside this winter, with a collection largely focused on outerwear and obviously, handbags. The alexa is now quilted and features fox-head hardware whereas the Bayswater is covered with fox-head rivets. Another thing to notice was the revival of the Neely, now called the Polly Push Lock and the introduction of a new model, the Carter. There is no doubt, this Elle Style Award for best accessories was well-deserved.

Aquascutum

Called English Icons, Joanna Sykes' first womenswear collection for Aquascutum played on what the brand does best : outerwear. Classics like the trenchcoat, the field jacket or the peacoat were reworked to play on proportions and layers for a deconstructed look. The "luxe and healthy looking blow-dry with a 70s outdoorsy, casual feel" created by Pantene hairdresser Sam McKnight for the show was also a winner for me.

VOGUE Paris

My sister has to be the best person on earth, period. When she went to Paris a couple of weeks ago for some work meetings she got me a copy of Vogue Paris and the Vogue Collections Hors Série. How sweet of her!

The Feburary issue is all the more important as it is one of Carine Roitfeld's last issues as editor in chief of Vogue Paris. I am so looking forward to seeing what Emmanuelle Alt will make of it. I also thoroughly enjoyed the Collections Hors Série. It is such a treat for the eyes! Retailing at 26€, I am fully aware that it is far from cheap but it is definitely worth every penny. Every collection is organised by city and designer, and features an in-depth review of the show. To top it all off, the accessory section is just a pure delight to look at. If you have the opportunity to get your hands on it, I would really recommend splashing out on this. I know I definitely will next season.

NYFW F/W11 Highlights

Jenni Kayne
Inspired by "eccentric weekends in the American country", Kayne's fall collection brings her signature Californian touch to this season. She plays with textures and colours, pairing bright silk pyjama-like trousers with cosy jumpers and velvet pointed-toe slippers, or sequin slip dresses with oversized woollen coats. To quote the designer herself, "call your friends over, stoke the fire and turn the music up, you're about to be the coolest girl in the middle of nowhere."

DKNY

There is no doubt that Donna Karan knows how to do youthful chic. Jackets, blouses and dresses got a playful makeover and appeared on the catwalk in different hues of bright pink, red tangerine and copper. Yet, it wasn't all about colours. Karan also offered some black pieces like blazers, sheer shirts, biker jackets and dresses. The models looked effortlessly cool, and although the inspiration for the collection is said to be "New York City modernists", I can't help but think that this collection is right up Alexa Chung's street.

Marc Jacobs

Fitted silhouettes covered in polka dots, latex and lace : this is what we can expect for next autumn from Marc Jacobs. Going against the 70s-inspired shapes he created for spring, he presented a very strict and unusual collection. Even though he clearly takes his inspiration from the 1940s and some of his first collections, he manages to give it a provocative edge, making this collection really modern and new.

Hervé Léger

It comes to no surprise that the bandage dress is a main feature of Hervé Léger's new collection and although one could think this is a bit "déjà vu", this couldn't be further from the truth. For autumn, the soft tones of the iconic dresses are toughened up with metallic detailing such as gold rectangles, buckle rings and chains woven into the fabric. Concerning the many black dresses and tops, they are being adorned with luxurious leather harnesses for a tougher look. Hervé Léger's fall collection is the perfect mix between sexy, feminine and tough.

Alexander Wang

"We're almost poking fun at decadence and luxury" said Alexander Wang about his F/W collection, but more than that he clearly took his main line to another level, creating a clear point of difference from his T line. Still, everything you would expect from the young designer is here for a laid-back, sexy look with a luxurious twist, thanks to chunky hand-knit, needle-punched angora and satin. I have to say, I do love this more sophisticated direction that Wang's main line seems to be taking.

3.1 Phillip Lim

When everyone is getting inspiration from the previous decades, Phillip Lim presents what I think is a very modern and refreshing F/W collection. Largely inspired by menswear, the collection is a constant play on textures and proportions with large fold-over trousers, leather and fur detailing, or beaded sleeves on simple garment. This is Phillip Lim at his best : chic and wearable.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

Every Monday my favourite club hosts dressed-up parties, a staple for any uni student club. Last week was 80s night and needless to say I went all out! I went for a Madonna-inspired look with lace, denim, pearls and crosses, but I still couldn't resist the frosty blue eye shadow and the bright pink lips.

Black Swan

If you haven't seen Black Swan yet, you'd better hurry up. Not only is the story breath-taking, but the whole aesthetic of the film is so inspiring. The beautiful ballet costumes were designed by Rodarte's Kate and Laura Mulleavy, whereas the characters' wardrobe was imagined by Amy Westcott. If the sisters did not get to be nominated for a BAFTA, they sure brought the whole imagery of Swan Lake to the screen.

Since I had some spare time, I collected a few pieces inspired by Black Swan and its characters.

Odette

In my head, this is what the white swan would wear : a mix of delicate pink, white and grey pieces with a touch of gold to warm it up a bit.

ELLE Fashion Internship

Take a quick look at my blog and you will immediately notice how much I love ELLE. What you may not know is that I am graduating in a couple of months and although I am planning on doing a post-grad in Fashion Journalism, I am taking a year out of university to get work experience and internships.

Lindsey Wixson x Chanel

If you were looking for a way to toughen up your spring wardrobe, don't look any further. Inspired by the dark smoky eyes that could be seen on their show, Chanel came out with a splendid spring makeup collection which includes the limited edition Les Ombres Perlées de Chanel eyeshadow palette, Le Vernis nail varnish in Black Pearl and the Rouge Allure lipstick in Flamboyante. If you haven't been blessed with Lindsey's gorgeous lips and thus feel like a bright red pout isn't for you, go for a nude lipstick which is a lot more wearable, but still creates the same effect. SORTED!

I might have claimed my love for chunky knits and wellies not so long ago, but I am over it now. Spring needs to come, and quick! I want to be able to wear nice little dresses, sandals, shorts and bright nail polish. Since it is not going to happen anytime soon, I figured I would share with you a few of my favourites from the Spring / Summer 2011 collections. I just love how most of these use leather, sequins, studs or a smoky eye to bring a tougher edge to an overall girly outfit. So, although I can't see myself rocking the longer hemlines that ruled the catwalk this season, this is right up my street!

Merry Christmas

Remember when I told you how much I loved the blazer from the Lanvin for H&M collection? Well, I couldn't find it anywhere until I went to Paris where there was only one left. Needless to say, I took it straight to the till with me and it is now hanging in my closet. Sweet! I also got the clutch for my sister. I loved it, but she loved it even more and it is Christmas after all. Merry Christmas Steph!

Another thing that I came back with were these Hunter boots. I've always wanted some but I couldn't justify buying them since I was living in one of the sunniest places in France. Santa must know I moved to the United Kingdom since they were waiting for me under the Christmas tree this year. What a nice surprise! I cannot wait to wear them.
